Sri Krishna Janmashtami is the celebration of the appearance of Lord Krishna on the eighth day (ashtami) of the waning moon (krishnapaksha) in the month of Bhadra.
Though unborn and eternal, the Supreme Lord, of His free will and causeless mercy, incarnates to deliver the pious and annihilate the miscreants. Lord Krishna appeared as the son of Vasudeva and Devaki, but had His childhood pastimes at Gokula, Vrindavan.
ISKCON Cultural Centre celebrates Janmastami every year with much pomp and grandeur. Devotees are engaged in reading and listening the transcendental tattva, janma and karma of Sri Krishna, the Supreme Personality of Godhead.
The altar is beautifully decorated with colorful flowers. An exquisite festival outfit is offered to the Deities. They are marvelously dressed with a variety of flowers, and splendid jewels; the festivities include chanting, dancing, processions, thegrand ceremonial bath. A grand abhisheka is performed at midnight to the utsava deities of Sri Sri Radha Krishna & Sri Sri Radha Govindaji
There is a virtual flood of thousands of visitors and guests on this day to have the darshan of their Lordships. A variety of cultural programs depicting the pastimes of the Supreme Lord are arranged for the pleasure of Their Lordships. Devotees fast till midnight and engage in various services to please the Lord.
At midnight, after fasting all day, devotees worship Lord Krsna and then enjoy a sumptuous feast prepared and offered to the Lord with love and devotion.
